Description |
Comex (headquartered in Mexico) had acquired a number of US paint stores and wanted to rebrand them all under the Comex brand.
The project re-branded and unified the stores by redesigning the millwork and display shelving while creating a better organizational standard for the many locations.
The renderings shown shown display one of the sub-brands; Frazee.
The interior was to become more modern with clean and modular fixtures.
A major challenge was not alienating the existing customers by making the spaces too modern; “they are selling paint, not computers.”
The prototype design was worked-out using a typical 3000 sq. ft. space (shown below in the plan diagram).

Millwork Pieces |
All the designed millwork is simple and modular. The perimeter modular shelving has integrated lighting, pegboard backing, and a storage drawer at the base.
The shelving is surrounded by a storage pilaster (shown in blue). The pilaster has two vertical drawers which hold paint samples for easy viewing. The pilaster also has integrated lighting and hanging signage.
There a few different product gondolas on the floor. There is a low open-shelf gondola used to store basic supplies and materials. Also, there is a closed flat drawer gondola with sample trays for larger sample storage.
There are also three vertical totems. These totems have an illuminated signage cap and vertical drawers. Each one is to be used for paint display such as latex, stain, enamel. These will most likely be used for the high-end paint selections.
